Cruise Ship Lecturing
Martin has also been involved in cruise ship and guest lecturing since 2003, which is something he enjoys doing between diving projects when time allows. He has over 24 different talks/lectures on a variety of interesting subjects and has completed over 50 lecture cruises worldwide for Cunard, P&O, Fred Olsen & Saga. See below for list of talks:

1. 'Treasures from the Deep' (Part 1), Pre BC to c1800 ….A long career salvaging numerous shipwrecks worldwide, recovering “sunken treasure” and valuable cargoes from the seabed. (Powerpoint/talk including small clips of video).
2. 'Treasures from the Deep' (Part 2), c1800 to the present time. Fascinating accounts of more recent wrecks and recoveries over the last 200 years. Including the tragic SS 'Mendi' and the mysterious disappearance of RN Submarine 'Swordfish' in WW2... and Martin's discovery and identification of the wrecks. (Powerpoint and video clips)

3; 'Deep Sea Diving' Commercial diving around the world, including North Sea 'Saturation Diving', the Middle East, Vietnam, and many other locations worldwide. Also includes many unusual diving tasks and projects along the way. A variety of stories from the early and more dangerous times up to the present day. (Powerpoint talk including clips of video footage.)
4. 'Operational RNLI' at Bembridge IW ….(Part 1); Martin served for 38 years with the RNLI , and was Coxswain of the Bembridge Lifeboat until reaching the age limit. Gripping stories of wrecks and rescue from the early days up until present times. (Powerpoint/talk/video). Also includes a DVD documentary of local rescues and incidents to play on ship’s TV if required.
5. 'Operational RNLI' ….(Part 2); Martin served with the RNLI from a teenager to age 55, and was Coxswain of the Bembridge Lifeboat until reaching the upper age limit. Gripping stories of wrecks and rescues in the English Channel over the years. (Powerpoint/talk/video). Also includes an action DVD documentary to play on ship’s TV if required.

6. 'Unsolved Mysteries'; (Part 1); Some of the more unusual diving projects undertaken by Martin, such as the search for Glenn Miller and his missing plane in the English Channel. The fascinating story, and most probable solution, to the mysterious disappearance of the famous musician in WW2. (Powerpoint presentation, and also an intriguing 2001 DVD documentary for ship’s TV if required).

8. 'The Salvage of the Century' The incredible story of the recovery of £45 million in gold bars from HMS 'Edinburgh' 800ft down in the Barents Sea in 1981. The deepest open water salvage operation by divers at the time. A fascinating story of a risky salvage project off Russia

10; 'Treasures of the Cape Verde Islands' Diving the shipwrecks and reefs of this fascinating island archipelago. Countless recovered treasures from wrecks through several centuries . Also includes wreck projects off Salvador, Brazil. (Powerpoint talk)
11. 'Mt. Kilimanjaro and New Zealand' Stories of a double challenge completed by Martin in 2009 for charity. Climbing Kilimanjaro, (the world’s highest free standing mountain), then immediately cycling unsupported over 2100 miles around New Zealand. (Powerpoint/talk)
12. 'The tragic sinking of the SS 'Mendi' lost off the Isle of Wight in 1917, with the huge loss of 646 lives. A poignant story of the SANLC soldiers who never made it to the WW1 trenches. Martin discovered the wreck in 1974 and it has become a very famous story ever since

'Housing the Treasures' Martin set up his own maritime museum and Shipwreck Centre in 1978 to house all the treasures he recovered from the sea, and this has grown into a huge collection over the years, The museum moved to larger premises in 2006, and which now includes recent new displays and exhibits (Powerpoint talk and video)
14. 'Underwater Photography'' A fascinating insight into the stunningly beautiful marine life under the oceans in various locations worldwide, Powerpoint presentation/talk with superb videos of whale sharks and other marine life
15. 'The Golden Era' The early years of the RNLI, when those incredibly brave and hardy crewmen rowed in open boats to rescue sailors in distress. (Powerpoint and video)
16. 'Maritime Mishaps' Modern sinkings and salvage/recovery work around the English Channel area'. (Powerpoint presentation/talk)
17. 'The mysterious disappearance of HM submarine 'Swordfish' in WW2'; HMS Swordfish set off from Gosport on a routine patrol off Brest in November 1940 and disappeared. She was relocated by Martin in 1983 some 250 miles from where she was thought to have been lost.
18. 'Transatlantic in a light aircraft' A real adventure trip from UK across the Northern Atlantic route via Iceland and Greenland in a small twin-engined aircraft... Ending up in Panama and Central America, then returning through the Caribbean Islands to Florida (Powerpoint)
19. 'A Double Cycle Challenge' John O’Groats to Land’s End, followed by cycling across Vietnam and Cambodia'; Proving that you are never too old to go long distance cycling, Martin completed both rides for charity in September and October 2011. (Powerpoint)
20. 'Cycling 1000 miles around Ireland' Not everybody's choice of how to mark your 70th birthday, but something that Martin decided to do!
